Test Results
If you have had a test carried out by the practice you can find out the result approximately seven days after you have had the test performed, although some tests do take a little longer. All results, whether blood tests, urine samples, scans or x-rays are seen by the doctors and a comment is written for you to pick up on the computer. If you phone our receptionists they will be able to inform you of the result or give you a message from the Doctor.
It would help us and you if you could telephone the Surgery after 2 pm for test results. It is often difficult to get through to us in the morning due to the volume of calls we receive at this time. By the afternoon the doctors will also have had time to look at and check any recent results received.
If a test result comes back showing something of concern we always do our best to contact you, but sometimes this is not possible, so we do ask that you try to contact us and please make sure you let us have up to date contact details.
We do not routinely contact you if a result is normal.
The doctors are often able to discuss test results with you over the phone. You do not always have to make an appointment to talk about test results.
If you specifically wish to see someone about your result always ring the surgery first to check that you result is back at the practice.
Sometimes patients have investigations arranged through the hospital consultants. The results from these tests do not automatically get forwarded onto GPs.
If you wish to know the result of a test which you had under the care of the hospital consultant you can phone and ask to speak to your consultant’s secretary. You can ask that the result be forwarded to the GP and you can then discuss this with a doctor here at the surgery. Allow a few days for this to be faxed to us.
